Today marks the spring equinox in the Northern hemisphere. A time when nature emerges after the long winter hibernation to renew and grow at a rapid rate as it makes the most of the warmer, longer days and stronger sun. It also marks the return of offshore wind turbine installations with the race on to get as much done as possible before the winter storms return in the autumn. This photo was sent to us by our friends at Viking Life-saving in Denmark. It shows a 40ft lorry about to leave, loaded up with Jo Bird JB29 Safety equipment cabinets on their way to Ørsted’s Borselle 1 and 2 offshore wind farms near Zeeland, Netherlands.

Once on site, they will be craned onto the stop of the heli-hoist platforms on the Siemens-Gamesa turbines. The purpose being to offer maintenance teams first class escape equipment should they become trapped on a turbine while carrying out their checks.

The substations for the same wind farms were fitted from new with Jo Bird safety equipment cabinets so we are delighted they are now being added to the turbines too. The cabinets are expected to last as long as the turbines themselves and require virtually no maintenance while providing IP56 level protection to the precious Viking immersion suits and Skylotec descent devices stored inside.

Our thanks to Viking life-saving for providing the attached photo.
