Clarisse Rocha and Pietro Ferreira from the EIC office in Brazil, hosted an excellent webinar yesterday about the offshore energy industry in South America. The EIC team showed just how many energy projects there are in the region both for oil and gas as well as renewables.

One of the projects mentioned was Total Energies’ Fenix gas platform which is destined for offshore Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. Part of this is being built by Rossetti Marino, the famous Italian engineering company who have, for many years, specified Jo Bird cabinets. Being such an extreme environment, we would, of course, agree it is a wise choice as replacing anything is not going to be cheap or easy in such a remote location. Quite a variety of cabinet types have been ordered to hold a whole range of PPE and emergency equipment. This is just in case there is an issue during a routine inspection as it is normally unmanned. The platform feeds gas to an existing structure which pipes it to land for processing. This helps to reduce costs but also greatly reduces the amount of CO2 generated.

Our thanks go to Total Energies Austral and partners, Rossetti Marino and Viking Life-saving as this was another truly international effort.

Jo Bird have enjoyed considerable export success to South America in recent years. Mostly to Brazil, Chile and Guyana but this maybe the first time Jo Bird cabinets are being used in Argentina.

The platform isn’t there yet but it will be equipped
with cabinets for breathing apparatus, lifejackets, immersion suits and
smoke hoods amongst others.
