Calm seas, long days and less energy demand, makes this time of year ideal for working on offshore wind turbines.
Orsted have taken advantage not only of the great weather but also of the rapid developments in drone technology. In this instance, to use a novel way of supply the Jo Bird JB29 emergency equipment cabinets to their offshore wind turbines. This saves a lot of time, greatly reduces the costs of installation and the amount of carbon generated from these upgrades. it also frees up the much sort after, crane vessels. The video, released by Orsted, show the JB29 cyclone rated cabinets being lifted from a vessel by large drones and placed onto the heli-hoist platforms on the Siemens-Gamesa turbines used in the Borssele 1 and 2 offshore wind farms. These are located off the Dutch coast.
The small installation team can then use a CTV to take them to the turbines with just a few tools to complete the installation.
